K. Laltluangkima of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has been elected as Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha member, securing 26 out of 36 votes cast in the state Assembly election.

He defeated Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate Zothansangi Hmar by 16 votes and will succeed outgoing MNF MP K. Vanlalvena in the Upper House of Parliament.

ZPM spokesperson Laltluangkima has vowed to prioritize food self-sufficiency, border security, and regional security in his tenure.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma dismissed opposition allegations of disunity in the party's selection process, stating that the votes would decide the outcome.

Two BJP MLAs and one from the Congress abstained from voting, while ZPM MLA W. Chhuanawma was unable to cast his ballot due to illness.
