Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam winner, is set to make a sensational comeback to singles competition at Wimbledon after receiving a wildcard entry. The 44-year-old tennis legend will play both singles and doubles at the tournament, having already accepted a wild card for the doubles competition with her sister Venus.

Williams' most recent singles match was in the 2022 US Open, where she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. At the time, she stated that she was 'evolving' away from tennis, rather than retiring.

With no singles ranking and having not entered any grass-court tuneup tournaments, Williams could potentially face top-ranked players like Iga Swiatek or Aryna Sabalenka in the opening rounds.

Williams has won Wimbledon seven times and 14 Grand Slams in doubles, all with Venus. She last appeared at Wimbledon in 2022, where she was defeated in the opening round by Harmony Tan.
