San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's time with the team appears to be coming to an end, according to a recent report by The New York Times. This development comes just 15 months after Aiyuk negotiated a $120 million contract extension over four years to resolve a contentious dispute. The 27-year-old player has been absent from team activities and meetings in recent months, leading to frustration among the 49ers coaching staff. As a result, the team has voided the guaranteed money in Aiyuk's 2026 contract, citing his failure to fulfill contractual obligations. The 49ers can recover a significant portion of the deal if they void the guarantees, which includes a $24.935 million option bonus for the 2026 season, a $1.215 million base salary, and additional bonuses. Aiyuk is reportedly not planning to challenge the move through an official grievance, paving the way for an expected release at the end of the season. Aiyuk suffered a season-ending knee injury in October 2024, which led to major reconstructive surgery. Despite hopes for a return in the latter part of the season, the player remains on the physically unable to perform list. Efforts from his teammates to get him back on the field have been unsuccessful.
