Auburn's Ashton Daniels to Sit Out Against Mercer for Eligibility Preservation

Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniels will miss Saturday's matchup against Mercer to preserve a year of eligibility, according to interim coach D.J. Durkin. This strategic decision allows Daniels to redshirt and retain an additional year of eligibility. Daniels, a senior transfer from Stanford, has seen limited action this season, suiting up three times for the Tigers. To preserve his eligibility, he can only play in one more game. Durkin believes that keeping Daniels off the field until the Iron Bowl against No. 10 Alabama is in the best interest of both the team and the quarterback. Daniels has shown promise in his limited appearances, including a 33-24 win against Arkansas where he led the team with 112 yards total. He also accounted for 442 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-38 loss to Vanderbilt. In his place, Jackson Arnold and freshman Deuce Knight will take to the field, with Arnold set to start. This decision allows Daniels to focus on his future, potentially returning to the field for another season.
