LONDON: The British Basketball Federation (BBF) has announced it will cease trading and enter liquidation due to a severe financial crisis. In a statement, the BBF said a significant reduction in income and unforeseen expenses left it unable to meet its liabilities. The governing body is working with insolvency specialists Begbies Traynor to complete the liquidation process. Despite the collapse, the focus remains on safeguarding the Great Britain national teams, ensuring their participation in upcoming international competitions. The BBF is working closely with FIBA, the global governing body for basketball, to secure the stability and security of the national teams. FIBA has pledged its support, saying it will work with the UK Government and UK Sport to restore the BBF's operations and secure its position as the basketball governing body in Great Britain. The home nations - Basketball England, Basketball Scotland, and Basketball Wales - have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining Great Britain's presence on the international stage. UK Sport has acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the sport but stressed its investment in the 3x3 programme remains unaffected. The liquidation marks the latest chapter in a turbulent period for British basketball governance, raising questions about the sport's long-term stability and funding model. The BBF was suspended by FIBA last month due to governance issues and its men's team was barred from international competition.
