Portugal's head coach Roberto Martinez has expressed concerns over Cristiano Ronaldo's fitness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing the uncertainty of his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Ronaldo, who leads the Golden Boot race with 21 goals in the league, sustained the injury during a recent Saudi Pro League match and is currently recovering in Spain.
According to Martinez, there is no guarantee that Ronaldo will be fit for the World Cup, which begins on June 11, and that football is a contact sport where injuries can occur at any time.
This is not the first time Ronaldo has faced injury concerns ahead of a major tournament, having struggled with a knee injury in the 2014 World Cup.
Martinez emphasized his responsibility to create the best possible environment for the team and that he has experience in managing player fitness, citing a similar situation with a player in Belgium who was only medically fit for the third match.
