At 21, Indian boxer Hitesh Gulia has already achieved what many consider a lifetime of success. However, his journey to the top of the boxing world began in a far more humble way. Gulia, who recently dominated the men's 70kg category to claim gold at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Greater Noida, still remembers the day he first stepped into a boxing ring – not to fight, but to lose weight. The youngest of five siblings from a small village in Haryana's Jhajjar district, Gulia was encouraged by his father, a taxi driver, to try the sport. Despite his father's struggles outside the ring, Gulia's coach, Hitesh Deswal, saw potential in the young boy and asked him to stay and train. That decision proved pivotal in Gulia's life, as he went on to win his third international medal this year. In April, he became the first Indian to win a World Boxing Cup gold in Brazil, followed by a silver in Stage 2 in Astana. The World Boxing Cup Finals in Greater Noida marked his third international victory, cementing his status as one of India's top boxers. Gulia credits his time in the Indian Navy, where he gained access to international-standard training, as a key turning point in his career. As he continues to achieve his goals, Gulia's big dreams are slowly becoming a reality. When asked about his success, Gulia humbly attributed it to 10 years of hard work and dedication. 'Iss saal maine doosra gold jeeta, par iske peeche 10 saal ki mehnat hai,' he said. With his inspiring journey serving as a testament to the power of perseverance and determination, Gulia is set to become one of India's most celebrated boxers in the years to come.
