Polish tennis sensation Iga Swiatek narrowly escaped a major upset in the Australian Open, edging Chinese qualifier Yuan Yue 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 in a hard-fought match. The second seed, seeking her first Australian Open title and a career Grand Slam, dominated the second set but struggled in the first, committing 35 unforced errors. Despite a slow start, Swiatek found her footing mid-set and ultimately outlasted her opponent. The 24-year-old has won four French Opens, the US Open, and Wimbledon but is still searching for her first Melbourne Park title. A win in Australia would make her only the seventh woman in the Open era to achieve a career Grand Slam, and the third youngest after Steffi Graf and Serena Williams. Swiatek will face Czech player Marie Bouzkova in the next round, a matchup that could pose another challenge for the Polish star.
