India is gearing up to host the Junior World Cup, with a talented team led by coach PR Sreejesh and skipper Rohit. The hosts finished with a silver medal at the Sultan of Johor Cup, but their performance was far from perfect. They secured wins against top teams like Great Britain, New Zealand, and Malaysia, but struggled against Pakistan and Australia. The Indian team conceded an average of 2.33 goals per match, with a worrying trend of penalty corner (PC) conversions. However, Sreejesh's team has been working hard to address this issue, practicing with Naval Tata HPC players and the Indian senior team. They have focused on PC defence and attack, and have been experimenting with different PC batteries. In the absence of injured forward Araijeet Singh Hundal, Rohit will take on the role of primary drag-flicker. The team has also gained valuable experience from playing in the Hockey India League (HIL) and has players like Amir Ali and Shardanand Tiwari, who have already played for India and in the Junior World Cup. While India has the potential to win, Sreejesh acknowledges that it won't be easy. The team will face tough opponents like Australia, Germany, and Argentina, and will need to be on their toes to succeed. With their experience and hard work, India is ready to give it their all in the Junior World Cup, which starts on Friday in Chennai.
