Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy has withdrawn from the upcoming FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament in Cyprus due to personal safety concerns. The tournament, which will determine the challengers for the world championship, is scheduled to take place in Paphos, Cyprus, on March 28.

Humpy cited ongoing conflict in West Asia and the risk of personal harm as the reasons for her withdrawal, despite assurances from the organisers. She stated that no event, no matter how important, can come before personal safety and well-being.

This decision is a major setback for India, as Humpy was one of the leading contenders in the tournament. Ukraine's Anna Muzychuk will replace Humpy in the tournament, according to FIDE rules and regulations.
