The Iranian football team's ambassador, Abolfazl Pasandideh, has expressed concerns that the team's players may not receive US visas in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team has relocated their training camp to Tijuana, Mexico, after originally planning to base themselves in Tucson, Arizona.
Pasandideh pointed out that Iran is not being treated equally for the tournament, citing issues with visa applications and training opportunities.
The team has also faced controversy over the selection of star striker Sardar Azmoun, who was left out of the preliminary squad amid reports of alleged disloyalty to the government.
Azmoun has denied these allegations and has been supported by a vice-president of the Islamic Republic, who has called for his recall to the national team.
