Kolkata: In a bid to save the Indian Super League (ISL) season, clubs and players are planning to separately petition the Supreme Court to allow them to start the league without commercial partners. Following meetings with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), players and CEOs of 11 ISL clubs are now considering seeking the court's permission to run the league independently. The development comes after AIFF held virtual meetings with a dozen players, including Sunil Chhetri, and 11 club CEOs on Wednesday. According to a club CEO, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Supreme Court's decision is expected by November 30, allowing the league to begin on January 1 and conclude by May 31. In a separate move, eight I-League clubs have written to AIFF, urging the league to start by January 5, 2026, and to be managed by the same team that will run the ISL. The uncertainty surrounding the league's start has already taken a toll on players, with many expressing their concerns about the impact on their form and fitness. As one player put it, 'Every day of uncertainty is causing damage that cannot be quantified.' With the situation still unclear, clubs and players are now looking to the Supreme Court for a solution.
