The move comes with a hefty price tag, as Kelly is owed a buyout of approximately $54 million, the second-largest in FBS history. Taking over as interim head coach is Frank Wilson, a native of New Orleans and LSU alumnus, who has deep ties to the program. With a wealth of experience as a running backs coach and recruiting coordinator under Les Miles, Wilson has a proven track record of developing top talent. He previously held head coaching positions at UTSA and McNeese State before rejoining LSU in 2022 as associate head coach under Kelly. In his new role, Wilson will focus on salvaging the season, with tight ends coach Alex Atkins taking over play-calling duties.
