Table tennis star Manika Batra has once again questioned the selection committee of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) over the charter-violating presence of nine members. This controversy comes after she was omitted from India’s Asian Games main squad earlier this month.
The TTFI had explained that she was omitted due to her intense international calendar, visa-related issues, and recovery challenges, which made it difficult for her to fulfill the selection criterion of playing on the domestic circuit.
Batra argued that her performance against top international players was ignored at the time of team selection. She also pointed out that the TTFI charter doesn’t allow any sub-committee to have more than seven members, which was violated in her case.
In her post, she wrote, “A 9-member committee decided my fate, yet I am being told that the process was fully compliant with the Constitution and the rules. I will leave it to the people to decide, especially those who have repeatedly said that rules must be respected and followed equally by everyone.”
Batra then clarified that she is competing in the 2026 United States Smash and her focus is on representing India in the event. She wished the selected team success and expressed her desire to make India proud.
