Switzerland's Marco Odermatt kicked off his Alpine Ski World Cup Super-G campaign with a dominating victory at Copper Mountain on Thursday, extending his pursuit of a fourth consecutive crystal globe in the discipline. The 28-year-old four-time overall champion showcased his skill in cloudy conditions, edging out Austria's Vincent Kriechmayr by a mere 0.08 seconds. This triumph marked Odermatt's 47th World Cup win and 90th podium finish, following his success in the Giant Slalom season opener in Soelden, Austria, last month. The historic Copper Mountain event drew large crowds, marking the first men's World Cup stop at the venue since 1976. Odermatt expressed his satisfaction with the win, citing the unique experience of racing at the familiar but previously unused course. He credited his preparation and effective plan for navigating the challenging slope. The podium was rounded out by Austria's Raphael Haaser, securing his sixth career World Cup Super-G top-three finish. Norway's Aleksander Aamodt Kilde made a comeback in the speed event after 22 months of injury, finishing 24th overall, while his partner, Mikaela Shiffrin, cheered him on from the crowd. The event continues on Friday with the men's Giant Slalom before the tour heads to Beaver Creek next month.
