Arthur Bauchet, a 25-year-old French skier, pulled off a remarkable comeback to win the gold medal in the men's alpine combined standing event at the Milan-Cortina Games.

After badly injuring his hand in a crash and falling asleep in an MRI machine on Monday, Bauchet was not expected to compete the following day.

However, he seized the opportunity to win his fourth gold medal and 10th overall of his Paralympic career.

Bauchet, who has a neurological condition called spastic paraplegia, said the win was one of his favorites because it was hard to believe he could do it in the first place.

He also credited his family, who were present at the event, for his motivation.

Bauchet's injury will require surgery after the Games, but he remains focused on competing in the giant slalom on Friday and the slalom on the final day of the Games.
