Lusail, Qatar - Oscar Piastri's incredible qualifying lap secured the pole position for the Qatar Grand Prix, pushing his teammate Lando Norris and championship leader Max Verstappen to second and third respectively. Norris, who is 22 points ahead of Piastri and 25 points clear of Verstappen, needs a victory on Sunday to guarantee his first Formula 1 title. The McLaren driver was on top early, setting the fastest time in the first session, but Piastri edged him out by 0.108 seconds in the second session. Verstappen, who was initially ahead of Norris, struggled with his car's performance and qualified third. Norris, however, remains optimistic about his chances. "The car has been feeling good," he said. "I was much happier today than yesterday." The McLaren driver will need to finish four points ahead of Piastri and one point clear of Verstappen to secure the title. Other notable qualifying results include George Russell of Mercedes in fourth and Kimi Antonelli in fifth. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc struggled, qualifying 10th, while Lewis Hamilton was knocked out of Q1 for the second consecutive race. The Qatar Grand Prix is set to be a challenging event, with two mandatory pit stops and restricted Pirelli tires that will limit drivers to 25 laps. Piastri acknowledged the difficulties, saying, "It will be pretty tough. With the two stops, we're going to be pushing pretty hard the whole time.
