The Las Vegas Raiders have parted ways with special teams coordinator Tom McMahon, following a series of critical errors that have cost the team crucial victories. Derius Swinton II, the team's assistant special teams coach, will take over as interim coordinator. This move marks the latest in a string of coaching changes for the Raiders, who have made adjustments to their staff almost every season since 2017. Despite retaining coordinators Patrick Graham and Tom McMahon from last season's team, the Raiders have opted to go in a different direction. The special teams unit has been a significant factor in the team's losses, including a heartbreaking 10-7 defeat to the Denver Broncos. Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson missed a 48-yard field goal that would have tied the game with under five minutes left, and the Broncos were able to run out the clock to secure the win. Carlson has also had a field goal blocked and an extra point missed in recent games. The Raiders' decision to fire McMahon comes as Carlson is in the final season of his contract. Coach Pete Carroll has expressed his expectations for improvement from the kicker, saying 'he has to kick better.' The team will look to Swinton to steady the special teams unit and help turn their season around.
