In a thrilling matchup, Te'Sean Smoot led Alabama State to a convincing 58-21 victory over Tuskegee in the 101st Turkey Day Classic. The standout quarterback threw for 422 yards and four touchdowns, with Jalen Jones receiving 189 yards of those. The Hornets' impressive performance marked their 10th win of the season, a feat not achieved since 2004. The game saw Alabama State score an incredible 44 consecutive points, with the turning point coming in the second quarter. Smoot's 11-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Creech tied the game at 21, but the Hornets then surged ahead with 17 points in the final five minutes of the half, including a spectacular 42-yard pick-six by Ta'Shaun Sims. Sims' earlier interception had given Tuskegee a chance to score, but the Hornets responded with a 10-play, 82-yard drive that ended in a 6-yard touchdown run by Marcus Harris II. The second half saw more of the same from Alabama State, with Smoot connecting for touchdowns with Derick Harden and Manny Thompson. Tuskegee's Michael Franklin had a decent game, throwing for 208 yards and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions. Zina Mulbah II and Devon Cooper were the bright spots for Tuskegee, scoring two touchdowns each. The win marked a notable achievement for Alabama State, who finished co-champions of the SWAC East Division. While they may not have advanced to the conference championship game, their performance in the Turkey Day Classic was a testament to their strength and determination.
