India's top-ranked male tennis player Sumit Nagal has finally received his Chinese visa, allowing him to compete in the Australian Open Playoff in Chengdu, China, starting November 24. Nagal expressed gratitude to several government officials and diplomatic representatives for their assistance in securing the visa in time. The 27-year-old tennis player from Haryana had faced a setback earlier this week when his visa application was initially rejected without explanation. However, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian clarified that China issues visas to athletes from all countries, including India, in accordance with laws and regulations. Nagal's participation in the Playoff event is a crucial opportunity for regional players to gain entry into the main draw of the 2026 Australian Open. Currently ranked 275 in the ATP standings, Nagal is India's highest-ranked singles player and relies on wild cards or qualifying rounds to compete in Grand Slam events. As a key contributor to India's Davis Cup win over Switzerland earlier this year, Nagal has demonstrated his capabilities in high-pressure matches. He will look to build on his recent performances and secure a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open.
