Mumbai: At just 19, Pranav Venkatesh, the 'Buddy' from Tamil Nadu, is making waves in the chess world. Last December, he won gold in the Under-18 World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, and in March, he became the fourth Indian man to win the Junior World Chess Championship. In Goa, Pranav continued his impressive run at the Chess World Cup, moving into the fourth round with a 2-5 win over Uzbekistan's Nodirbek Yakubboev. Despite a stumble in the second round against Norway's GM Aryan Tari, Pranav bounced back with a 2.5-1.5 win in the tiebreaker. Pranav's growth as a chess player has been remarkable, with Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand praising his performance. "He has faced many of these people before in multiple tournaments," Anand said. "So the World Cup will be an interesting challenge in the sense of training his knockout skills.
