Chicago White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami, a top hitter in Major League Baseball, will be sidelined for four to six weeks after suffering a strained right hamstring.
Murakami, 26, was placed on the 10-day injured list after being injured in the third inning of a 4-3 win over Detroit on Friday.
The Japanese slugger has been a key contributor to the White Sox's success this season, sharing the AL home run lead with 20, leading the AL with 43 runs scored, and second in the AL with 41 runs batted in.
Manager Will Venable said Murakami's injury is a significant blow to the team, but the White Sox remain a contender in the American League Central division, 2.5 games behind Cleveland.
