This year's Black Friday shopping weekend saw a significant shift in consumer behavior, with a record $8.6 billion spent online, marking a 9.4% increase from last year, according to Adobe Analytics. The data firm's report highlights a growing trend of shoppers opting for digital carts over physical stores, despite initial expectations of a robust in-store turnout. The reluctance to spend in stores can be attributed to lingering concerns over inflation, trade uncertainty, and a sluggish labor market, which have led consumers to adopt a more cautious approach to holiday shopping. However, Adobe expects overall online sales to reach a new high, with projected totals of $11.7 billion to $11.9 billion for the weekend. The online sales momentum is expected to continue through the weekend, with Adobe forecasting $5.5 billion in spending on Saturday (a 3.8% increase from last year) and $5.9 billion on Sunday (a 5.4% rise). The projected totals for Cyber Monday, the season's biggest online shopping day, stand at $14.2 billion, a 6.3% increase from last year. This year's holiday season is shaping up to be a digital-dominated affair, with online sales expected to outpace previous years.
