US authorities have arrested a 62-year-old Canadian lawyer, Deepak Balwant Paradkar, for advising his client, Olympic snowboarder-turned-gangster Ryan Wedding, to eliminate a witness. Paradkar is accused of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, linked to Wedding's drug trafficking activities. As part of a joint crackdown, seven Canadians have been apprehended, and an eighth individual remains at large. Paradkar, who has offered illicit services to Wedding, including facilitating connections with drug traffickers and assisting in bribery and murder, has been charged with violating the trust of his clients and the ethics of his profession. According to authorities, Paradkar advised Wedding to kill a witness, saying that if he did, the case would be dismissed. This advice is alleged to have been given as part of a larger scheme to silence witnesses and further Wedding's drug trafficking operations. Paradkar appeared in a Toronto court on Wednesday, facing extradition to the US. Wedding, who is listed on the FBI's Most Wanted list, is considered the largest drug trafficker in Canada and is believed to be hiding in Mexico, receiving protection from the Sinaloa Cartel. A $15 million reward has been offered for his capture. The case highlights the involvement of Canadian lawyers in organized crime and the need for greater scrutiny of the profession. It also underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to dismantle the complex networks of drug traffickers and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
