A devastating fire swept through The Social Seminole apartment building on FSU's campus on November 19, displacing 72 adults and leaving 30 Indian students in dire need of aid. Among the victims, 27-year-old Preet Harsoda suffered life-threatening burns covering over 65% of his body and is currently in the intensive care unit at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. The Indian Student's Association of Tallahassee launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the affected students, which has raised over $50,000 so far. The funds will cover medical expenses, rehabilitation care, and daily living costs for Preet and his family, who are traveling from India. Another student, Mohammad Aamir Hussain, sustained severe third-degree burns covering 48% of his body while trying to escape the fire. His GoFundMe campaign aims to raise $20,000 for his medical expenses, including long-term hospital care and rehabilitation. According to FSU officials, 90% of the displaced students are foreign students. The university has confirmed that around 53 students were affected by the fire, which is currently under investigation. Friends and classmates have rallied around Preet, with one friend, Ilesh Patel, describing his condition as 'life-threatening' and urging the public to donate to his GoFundMe page. The funds will also help alleviate the financial burden on Preet's family during this critical time. The outpouring of support has been remarkable, with over $41,000 raised for Preet's medical expenses so far. The public can continue to donate to Preet's GoFundMe page and help ease the financial burden on his family during this challenging time.
