The sister of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed deep concern over the treatment her brother is receiving in jail. Noreen Niazi, one of Imran Khan's three sisters, claims that authorities are withholding information about his condition and denying her and others access to him for over four weeks. Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has been in jail since August 2023 in multiple cases. Niazi alleges that the authorities are deliberately holding up crucial information about her brother's health and are not allowing anyone to meet him. She recalled the time when Imran was kept in isolation for nearly three weeks last year, with no electricity and no access to books. Niazi claims that authorities violated the prison manual, which states that isolation should not last more than four days. The situation has sparked outrage, with Niazi accusing the Pakistan government of giving police a free hand to deal with those supporting Imran Khan. She alleged that police have been allowed to 'beat up' people, including children, women, and the elderly, without fear of consequences. The Adiala Jail administration had previously refuted claims about Imran Khan's health, stating that he was in good health and receiving complete medical attention. However, Niazi's concerns highlight the uncertainty surrounding Imran Khan's treatment in jail, sparking questions about the treatment of political prisoners in Pakistan.
