Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's sisters are seeking an impartial investigation into a violent police crackdown on them and PTI supporters outside Adiala Jail last week. The incident occurred as the sisters, along with party supporters, camped outside the jail, demanding access to Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023 in multiple cases. According to the PTI, the sisters were peacefully protesting their concerns for Imran Khan's health condition when police suddenly turned off the streetlights, plunging the area into darkness. Witnesses describe the subsequent police assault as 'brutal and orchestrated.' Imran Khan's sisters, Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Dr. Uzma Khan, have submitted a formal complaint to the Punjab Inspector General of Police, detailing their ordeal. In the complaint, Noreen Niazi alleges that she was seized by her hair, thrown to the ground, and dragged across the road, sustaining injuries. The sisters have demanded that the police immediately initiate proceedings against the officers involved in the assault. This incident has raised concerns over the government's restrictions on meetings with Imran Khan, with even Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi being denied access to the former prime minister.
