India has dispatched two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to Sri Lanka to assist in search, rescue, and relief efforts following Cyclone Ditwah. The teams, consisting of 80 personnel and four canine units, departed from Hindon Air Base early Saturday morning aboard an Indian Air Force aircraft. Led by Commandant P.K. Tiwary, the NDRF teams are equipped with essential gear, including inflatable boats, medical supplies, and humanitarian assistance equipment. This international deployment comes as the NDRF readies its domestic forces along the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts, anticipating potential severe weather conditions. Fourteen NDRF teams have already been stationed in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, with additional teams earmarked for Puducherry. Ten more teams are en route to Chennai from the NDRF's 5th and 6th Battalions. The NDRF is coordinating closely with the India Meteorological Department, National Disaster Management Authority, state governments, and other agencies to ensure a swift and effective response to the crisis at home and abroad. This marks the fourth instance of India deploying its rescuers abroad for a rescue mission, following the 2015 Nepal earthquake, the 2023 Turkey earthquake, and the 2025 Myanmar earthquake.
