In a significant crackdown, Pakistani security forces have eliminated 22 terrorists affiliated with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an intelligence-based operation in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The operation, conducted on Monday, targeted a location in Bannu district, which borders north Waziristan. The military's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the troops engaged the terrorists in an intense fire exchange, resulting in the deaths of 22 extremists. The term 'khawarij' refers to TTP militants, whom the government considers a threat to national security. Following the operation, the ISPR assured that a sanitization process is underway to eliminate any potential remaining terrorists in the area. The military also emphasized its commitment to continuing the counter-terrorism campaign at 'full pace' to eradicate terrorism from the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their success, stating that they are achieving 'major successes' against terrorism. He expressed solidarity with the armed forces, vowing to completely eradicate all forms of terrorism from Pakistan. The latest operation comes after a recent surge in terror activities, particularly in KPK and Balochistan, following the TTP's decision to end its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. The most recent incident was a suicide attack on the Federal Constabulary's headquarters in Peshawar, which resulted in the deaths of three FC personnel and injured 12 others.
