In a bid to safeguard its critical infrastructure, Poland has launched a massive security operation, dubbed 'Operation Horizon,' following a series of mysterious rail sabotage incidents blamed on Russia. The incidents, which include drone incursions and arson attacks, have raised concerns about the safety of rail transportation, particularly given Poland's strategic role in transporting Western military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. As Poland's relations with Moscow continue to deteriorate, the country has directed up to 10,000 troops to enhance railway security. The troops, comprising Special Forces, Cyber Defence, and Territorial Defence Forces, will be equipped with advanced drones and off-road vehicles to monitor railway areas and detect potential threats. The operation focuses on identifying unusual behavior near railway areas, unattended items, and interference with railway infrastructure. Special attention is being paid to obstacles placed on tracks, which could potentially derail trains. Polish prosecutors have identified two Ukrainian nationals allegedly working for Moscow as suspects in the recent sabotage incidents. To ensure passenger safety, security forces are encouraging passengers to report any unusual activity. While some passengers have expressed concerns about the security measures, many have chosen to continue using the train, despite the uncertainty. The operation is expected to continue until at least March, with security forces working to prevent any further incidents and ensure the safe transportation of goods and people.
