Russian President Vladimir Putin escalated tensions by warning that his country may launch strikes on ships of nations backing Ukraine if a surge in attacks on Moscow's tanker fleet continues. The threat comes as Putin prepares to meet with US envoys at the Kremlin to discuss plans to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. According to sources, Putin described the Ukrainian military's actions as 'piracy' and hinted at expanding Russia's countermeasures to target port facilities and ships visiting Ukrainian ports. He also suggested that Russia may retaliate against vessels from countries assisting Ukraine in these alleged piracy acts. Putin's warning follows a series of attacks on Russia's tanker fleet, which began last week with an assault on a fuel tanker off the coast of Senegal. Two large oil tankers were subsequently targeted in the Black Sea. The manager of one of the attacked ships has announced that it will cease trading in Russia. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is awaiting the outcome of Putin's meeting with US envoys, expressing his readiness to engage in further talks, including with US President Donald Trump. The diplomatic efforts come as negotiations between US and Ukrainian officials continue in Florida, aiming to reach a peace deal.
