Severe storms sweeping through Alabama have brought chaos, leaving over 50,000 residents without electricity. As of 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Alabama Power reported 50,213 customers affected, with numbers continuing to rise. Jefferson County alone has seen 32,956 power outages, while other counties like Blount, Etowah, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa, and Walker have also reported significant disruptions. Fallen trees and power lines are hindering travel across the state, with one road in northern Jefferson County deemed impassable as crews work to clear the route. Social media posts have surfaced, detailing power outages in various areas, including Whorton Bend in Etowah County. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for the state, expecting 'considerable tree damage' and potential harm to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings due to wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. The affected areas include several cities in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The severe weather conditions have also put a damper on travel plans ahead of Thanksgiving, which is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Residents are advised to exercise caution and follow updates from local authorities as the situation continues to unfold.
