A fresh wave of tensions has swept across the Afghanistan-Pakistan border following a series of airstrikes by Pakistani forces that left 10 Afghans dead, including nine children. The incident, which occurred in the provinces of Paktika, Khost, and Kunar, has been strongly condemned by the Afghan Taliban, who claim that the airstrikes violated Afghanistan's airspace sanctity and international standards. According to Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, the strikes, which were carried out on Tuesday night, also injured four others. Mujahid took to X, where he alleged that Pakistan had bombed the home of a civilian in Khost province, killing nine children and a woman. He described the incident as a 'crime' and vowed that Afghanistan would deliver a necessary response at an appropriate time. The alleged strike comes just over a month after cross-border clashes erupted between the two countries, following Afghan claims that Pakistani drone strikes hit Kabul. The ceasefire brokered by Qatar and Turkey in October was still holding at the time of the incident. In a separate development, a recent attack on the headquarters of the Federal Constabulary in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar has left three officers dead and 11 others wounded. While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, Pakistani Taliban is suspected to be behind it. The group is allied with the Afghan Taliban and has many of its leaders hiding in Afghanistan. The latest incident has once again raised concerns about the fragile relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with both countries accusing each other of violating their airspace and international standards. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how both countries will respond to the escalating tensions.
