US President Donald Trump has sparked controversy by announcing that South Africa will not be invited to the 2026 G20 Summit, citing alleged human rights abuses against white settlers. In a recent X post, Trump accused the South African government of failing to address the issue, stating that "white people" were being killed and their farms taken from them. The US skipped the recent G20 Summit in Johannesburg, hosted by South Africa, which was attended by global leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump claimed that South Africa refused to hand over the G20 presidency to a US representative, but the South African Presidency disputed this, saying the handover was completed at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. This is not the first time Trump has made claims about the persecution of white minority in South Africa, which have been widely discredited by the South African government and local leaders. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa described the US decision as "regrettable", highlighting efforts to improve diplomatic ties between the two nations.
