A disturbing incident unfolded in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Thursday when Israeli security forces shot and killed two Palestinian men who appeared to be unarmed and surrendering. The incident occurred during a raid in the northern city of Jenin, where the men were seen exiting a building surrounded by armed Israeli forces. According to Palestine TV news footage, the men lifted their shirts and lay on the ground, indicating their intention to surrender. However, the forces then directed them back inside the building before opening fire at close range. A Reuters journalist witnessed the men leaving the building and later saw Israeli forces standing near what appeared to be a lifeless body. The Palestinian health ministry identified the two men as 26-year-old Montasir Abdullah and 37-year-old Yusuf Asasa. The Israeli military and police issued a joint statement announcing an investigation into the incident, but did not provide a reason for the forces' actions. Jenin Governor Kamal Abu al-Rub accused Israeli forces of carrying out a 'cold-blooded execution' of two unarmed men who had surrendered. He expressed doubt that the Israeli authorities would conduct a genuine investigation. The incident comes as part of a months-long Israeli campaign across northern West Bank cities. Israeli forces had been carrying out an operation in the Jenin area to apprehend individuals wanted for 'terror activities.' The two men who were shot were reportedly affiliated with a 'terror network in the area,' although no evidence was disclosed. The killing has been condemned by Palestinian militant group Hamas, which urged the international community to intervene to stop what it called Israel's 'escalating field executions.' Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has given his full backing to the military and police unit involved in the shooting, saying that 'terrorists should die.'
