Awez Darbar Reveals Turbulent Relationship Between Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ismail Darbar

Music composer Ismail Darbar's son Awez Darbar has shed light on the contentious relationship between his father and renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The two worked together on films like Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, but their collaboration ended abruptly after Devdas. In a recent conversation, Awez described their relationship as 'Tom-and-Jerry-like', characterized by ego clashes and frequent break-ups. According to Awez, Ismail and Bhansali often make up, only to have their differences resurface and cause them to part ways again. This cycle has repeated itself on multiple occasions, including on the sets of Heeramandi, where Ismail was reportedly involved in ego clashes with Bhansali. In October, Ismail himself described Bhansali as egoistic, citing instances where Bhansali took credit for his contributions to their earlier films. Despite their tumultuous relationship, Ismail's music has left a lasting impact on the industry, earning him a National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 2000. Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently working on his upcoming film Love & War, starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles, set to release in 2026.
