Japanese filmmaker Kei Ishikawa is thrilled that his directorial debut, A Pale View of Hills, will soon be available in India via streaming platforms. This marks a milestone for the film, which was previously screened at the International Film Festival of India and Cannes. Ishikawa acknowledges that the OTT boom has made it easier for international films to reach Indian audiences. However, he notes that despite the availability of streaming platforms, some arthouse films from around the world still remain inaccessible. Ishikawa's film is an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's 1982 novel of the same name, which he modified to focus on the daughter's discovery of her mother's history. Ishikawa credits the Indian film industry for its widespread popularity, particularly in Japan. He reveals that many of his friends are fans of Bollywood, with Baahubali being a particular favorite. The Japanese filmmaker has also discovered the existence of Indian arthouse films and is eager to explore this genre further, having recently watched some films in Goa.
