Bollywood actor Vishal Jethwa has shared his personal struggles with the English language, revealing that he initially considered skipping the Cannes Film Festival due to his fear of communication. Jethwa, who stars in the critically acclaimed film 'Homebound', spoke about his journey of self-acceptance during a session at the 15th IFP in Mumbai. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, 'Homebound' tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a Muslim and a Dalit boy who strive to become police officers, despite facing social stigma. The film, inspired by journalist Basharat Peer's article, has garnered widespread acclaim at festivals like Cannes and Toronto. Jethwa, who has also appeared in films like 'Mardaani 2' and 'Salaam Venky', shared his fears of being judged by his peers, including co-stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. However, he eventually realized that it's not about language proficiency, but about embracing one's identity and accepting others. 'Homebound', which also stars Janhvi Kapoor, has been selected as India's official entry for the 2026 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature category. The film is executive produced by Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese.
