Veteran filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has expressed his frustration with the current state of movie promotions in Bollywood. In a recent conversation, he called out the industry's excessive spending on promotions, stating that it's a 'waste of money.' Kashyap pointed out that new releases have little to no chance of success after just three days. He recalled a time when word of mouth was more powerful, and cinema halls were fewer in number. The director expressed his concern that the emphasis on big promotions is overshadowing smaller films, ultimately causing them to lose out. Anurag Kashyap cited the success of South Indian cinema as an example of how to strike a balance between promotions and production costs. He suggested that Bollywood should adopt a similar approach to prevent the 'big' from crushing the 'small.' The director's comments come as the industry continues to grapple with the challenges of producing and promoting films. Anurag Kashyap's last directorial release was Nishaanchi, and he is set to appear in the upcoming movie Dacoit, alongside Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.
