The Brahmaputra Literature Festival is set to return from February 6-8 in Sivasagar, Assam, with a special focus on paying tribute to two cultural icons: Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg. This year's theme, 'Confluence of Rhythm, Word, and Art - Celebrating the Voice of Humanity,' aims to highlight the intersection of music, literature, and human emotions. Festival director Rita Chowdhury describes the Brahmaputra as a metaphor for humanity, emphasizing its vastness, inclusivity, and timelessness. The event will serve as a platform for positive thinking and a celebration of the artistic legacies of Hazarika and Garg. Hazarika's birth centenary is being celebrated across Assam and the country, while Garg's artistic legacy will be honored in the wake of his mysterious death in Singapore. The festival will feature a diverse range of speakers and performers, including poet Prabha Varma, writer Mitra Phukan, and Bangladeshi poet Shimul Salahuddin. It will also showcase the traditions, artistry, and cultural identity of the Bodo and Mishing communities. An ethnic food street will offer a taste of the region's rich culinary diversity, and five awards will be presented to icons from various genres. The Brahmaputra Literature Festival has previously been held in New Delhi and will be formally inaugurated on February 5. A curtain-raising event in Gauripur will celebrate the legacies of Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah, Pramathesh Barua, and the women of Rajbari for their contributions to art, culture, and tradition.
