The Delhi High Court has criticized Netflix's satirical drama 'The Ba***ds of Bollywood' for its apparent bias against former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official Sameer Wankhede. Wankhede had filed a defamation case against Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix, and the show's creator Aryan Khan, who was famously arrested by Wankhede in 2021. The court acknowledged that the show was satire, but pointed out that it was not without bias. Red Chillies' Senior Advocate Kaul defended the show, stating that satire is a protected form of expression. However, the court disagreed, noting that the bias in 'The Ba***ds of Bollywood' was starkly different from the satire of renowned cartoonist RK Laxman, who had ridiculed the Prime Minister without bias. The show, directed by Aryan Khan, features Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol, and other notable actors. It has been accused of depicting a plain-clothed cop with a crusade against drugs, with some internet users commenting on the character's resemblance to Wankhede. The court's ruling has sparked a debate over the limits of satire and the responsibility of creators to avoid bias in their work.
