Mumbai, India - Director Sriram Raghavan is still reeling from the loss of screen icon Dharmendra, who passed away at 89. The two had collaborated on several projects, including 'Johnny Gaddar' and the upcoming war drama 'Ikkis'. Raghavan recalls Dharmendra's enthusiasm and energy on set, saying he 'would be a little tired but once the camera switched on, suddenly there was another side to him.' In an exclusive interview, Raghavan shared fond memories of working with Dharmendra, who had a substantial role in 'Ikkis'. The film, set to release on December 25, is a biopic on lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India's youngest Param Vir Chakra hero. Dharmendra played the role of the father, M L Khetarpal, to Agastya Nanda's war hero. Raghavan, a huge fan of Dharmendra's work, had paid a tribute to the actor in 'Johnny Gaddar' by incorporating songs from his older films. He recalled how nervous he was when approaching Dharmendra for the 2007 movie, but the actor's warm demeanor put him at ease. Their conversations often revolved around film trivia, with Dharmendra sharing stories of working with legendary directors like Bimal Roy and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Raghavan credits Dharmendra for contributing to the dialogues of 'Johnny Gaddar', including the iconic line 'Shuruwat Majboori Se Hoti Hai Dheere Dheere Majboori Zaroorat Ban Jaati Hai, Aur Phir Zaroorat Aadat Ban Jaati Hai'. Raghavan had wanted to work with Dharmendra again on 'Agent Vinod', but it didn't work out due to scheduling conflicts. He considers 'Ikkis' a 'god sent' opportunity to collaborate with the actor again. The film, produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, is a tribute to Dharmendra's legacy and a celebration of his remarkable career. As Raghavan puts it, 'I hope "Ikkis" turns out to be a memorable moment for everyone.'
