Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore has fondly remembered her co-star Dharmendra, who passed away on Monday at the age of 89. In a rare display of humility, Dharmendra had once extended his shooting hours to accommodate Sharmila's tight schedule, finishing a song at 6 AM. This selfless act left a lasting impression on Sharmila, who credits Dharmendra's down-to-earth nature as a key factor in their successful collaborations. Sharmila and Dharmendra worked together on several iconic films, including Satyakam, Chupke Chupke, and Anupama. In an interview, Sharmila praised Dharmendra's talent and humility, saying that he never let stardom change his attitude towards people. 'He was just different,' she said. 'He never forgot his roots, and he would talk about it openly. He was a man of the earth, and he remained very close to his real self.' Sharmila also recalled how Dharmendra would often play relatable characters in his movies, which was a departure from his typical 'muscle man' image in mainstream Bollywood films. 'Hrishida would tease him, telling Dharamji, "Forget that you are Dharmendra, the muscle man. Here you are playing a very good role"... He would make us laugh... All of us were very relaxed on Hrishida's set.' The two actors also worked together on Yakeen, Ek Mahal Ho Sapano Ka, Devar, and Sunny. Sharmila's memories of Dharmendra are a testament to the actor's kind and cooperative nature, which made him a joy to work with. As Sharmila said, 'Nobody sane would have done what Dharam did, but he was different. I was forever grateful to him.'
