Ramesh Sippy, the renowned director of the iconic 1975 film Sholay, has shared a shocking incident from the movie's climax scene. During filming, Dharmendra, one of the lead actors, loaded a gun and fired a shot, which narrowly missed Amitabh Bachchan, who was standing nearby. The incident occurred when Dharmendra was supposed to load the gun but not fire it. However, he went ahead and pulled the trigger, sending the bullet whizzing past Amitabh Bachchan, who was positioned at the edge of the cliff. The action cameraman, Jim Allen, refused to continue filming, citing concerns over safety. Ramesh Sippy revealed that the shooting was halted, and Dharmendra apologized to Jim and the crew. The incident was not intentional, but rather a moment of unscripted drama that added to the film's legendary status. Sholay, produced by Ramesh's father GP Sippy, remains a beloved classic, celebrated for its action-packed sequences, memorable characters, and iconic soundtrack composed by RD Burman. The film recently received a special 50th-anniversary tribute at the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna, Italy, where its fully restored and uncut version was premiered to a global audience.
