Dulquer Salmaan's highly anticipated film Kaantha, a retro-style drama, has made a decent start at the box office. Directed by Selvamani, the film, which stars Dulquer, Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani, and Rana Daggubati, received mixed reviews in Tamil and Telugu upon its release. Despite the praise for the lead performances, Kaantha failed to surpass Dulquer's previous films, King of Kotha and Lucky Baskhar, in terms of box office numbers. According to the production houses Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, Kaantha collected ₹10.5 crore worldwide on its opening day. Although this is a respectable amount, it falls short of King of Kotha's opening of ₹15 crore and Lucky Baskhar's ₹12 crore. The film's performance in India was particularly notable, with ₹4.30 crore net collected on Day 1. Kaantha's storyline revolves around TK Mahadevan (Dulquer), a superstar who teams up with his former mentor, director Ayya (Samuthirakani), to create Tamil cinema's first horror film. However, the project's success is marred by the bruised egos of the two leads, with devastating consequences for someone they care about deeply. The film's opening day numbers may not be spectacular, but it remains to be seen whether Kaantha's numbers will pick up over the weekend. Fans and critics alike are eager to see how the film will perform in the coming days.
