Gotham Awards 2025: 'One Battle After Another' Triumphs, Jafar Panahi Sweeps International Honors

The 2025 Gotham Film Awards honored the best in cinema with a night of emotional speeches and surprising wins. Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' took home the top prize for Best Feature, beating out six other nominations. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, marked a personal triumph for Anderson, who also celebrated his 24-year anniversary with partner Maya Rudolph. Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi dominated the international categories, sweeping all three of his nominations for Best International Feature, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director for 'It Was Just an Accident.' Panahi's win came just hours after he was sentenced in absentia to one year in prison in Iran. In his speech, he dedicated his awards to independent filmmakers worldwide who risk everything for the truth. Other notable winners included Akinola Davies Jr. for Breakthrough Director and Outstanding Lead Performance for 'My Father's Shadow,' won by Sopé Dìrísù. Wunmi Mosaku took home Outstanding Supporting Performance for 'Sinners,' with Ryan Coogler accepting on her behalf. Abou Sangaré won Breakthrough Performer for 'Souleymane's Story.' The ceremony also paid tribute to several industry icons, including Noah Baumbach, Guillermo del Toro, Julia Roberts, and Jeremy Allen White.
