In a vibrant opening parade, the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) kicked off in Goa on Thursday, marking a departure from the traditional ceremony format. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju, and other dignitaries flagged off the colorful procession, which included larger-than-life tableaus from various states and folk dances performed by over 100 artists. The event paid tribute to the Telugu film industry, horror films, and other cinematic genres, with film production houses and streaming platforms showcasing their contributions. Bollywood stars Anupam Kher, Sreeleela, Jackie Shroff, and Nandamuri Balakrishna, who was honored for his 50-year acting career, also attended the parade. IFFI's Film Bazaar, now renamed WAVES Film Bazaar, was inaugurated earlier in the day, featuring Guest of Honour Ms. Jaewon Kim, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, who received a standing ovation for singing the national anthem, Vande Mataram. The festival, which runs until November 28, promises exciting events, including gala premieres for films like Tere Ishk Mein and 120 Bahadur, as well as masterclasses by Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, and other industry experts.
