Goa has cemented its status as a premier destination for cinematic exchange, thanks to its two-decade-long association with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The festival, which first arrived in Goa in 2004, has undergone significant transformations over the years. Since its inception in 1952, IFFI has traveled to various parts of the country before becoming a permanent fixture in Goa in 2014. Speaking at the inauguration of IFFI's 56th edition, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant acknowledged the festival's growth alongside the state. Sharmad Pai Raiturkar, a member of the Entertainment Society of Goa, praised the efforts of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who brought IFFI to the state and established it as a regular feature on the country's cultural calendar. IFFI serves as a platform not only for filmmakers but also for showcasing local culture, language, and cuisine. The festival has provided a rare opportunity for Goan filmmakers to gain global exposure, as seen in the case of "Baga Beach," which won a national award after being featured at IFFI. Delegates attending the festival have witnessed its consistent improvement over the years. Ancil Mathais, who has attended IFFI for a decade, noted that the quality of films and audience has increased significantly. Independent film director Arunkumar Senthil praised the festival's growing facilities and its ability to attract a diverse range of filmmakers. As IFFI 2025 continues until November 28, Goa's reputation as a vibrant hub for cinematic exchange is set to shine on the global stage.
