The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is honouring the late actor Dharmendra in a special tribute at its closing ceremony, scheduled for later this week. Dharmendra, a veteran of the Indian film industry, passed away on Monday morning at the age of 89. In a gesture of respect, a minute's silence was observed at the closing ceremony of the Film Bazaar. As part of the festival, IFFI has planned a session titled '50 Years of Sholay: Why 'Sholay' Still Resonates?' to be held on November 27, featuring a discussion with director Ramesh Sippy. Although a screening of 'Sholay' in a 4K restored version was initially scheduled for November 26, it has been cancelled due to technical reasons. A bike displayed at the festival, reminiscent of the iconic 'Yeh Dosti' song from 'Sholay', has now become a tribute to Dharmendra. The motorcycle, a BSA WM20, was originally showcased as a special attraction to mark the 50th anniversary of the film. It was chosen due to its historical significance, as it was part of the British war effort during World War II. The display highlights the bike's unique features and its connection to the iconic song sequence, which took 21 days to shoot.
