The International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) 2025 has put on hold the screening of 19 films, including critically acclaimed titles related to the Palestine conflict and a 100-year-old classic by Sergei Eisenstein. The decision comes as the festival awaits official censor exemptions from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Among the stalled films are 'Battleship Potemkin', a landmark drama that has been ranked as one of the greatest films of all time, and 'All That's Left of You', a poignant portrayal of the First Intifada. The latter film, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, follows the personal story of a Palestinian boy's tragic fate during the occupation. Another film awaiting approval is 'Beef', a powerful drama that explores themes of grief, prejudice, and identity through freestyle rap. The 30th edition of the IFFK, which was inaugurated by State Culture Minister Saji Cherian on December 12, is scheduled to run until December 19. Although the festival has cancelled several screenings, including 'Battleship Potemkin' and 'All That's Left of You', organisers have assured that a revised schedule will be announced soon. IFFK officials are currently in discussions with the Ministry to secure the necessary approvals for the stalled films.
